Plant feeding by Nesidiocoris tenuis: Quantifying its behavioral and mechanical components

چکیده

Zoophytophagous predators play an important, though sometimes controversial, role in pest management programs different crops. In tomato crops, damage caused by phytophagy of the mirid Nesidiocoris tenuis has mainly been reported at high predator population levels or when prey is scarce. Previous research focused on predator/prey ratios, stylet morphology and saliva composition to explain plant N. tenuis. this study, we investigated behavioral mechanical components damage. For this, compared feeding behaviors males, females fifth-instar nymphs Additionally, type activities performed each stage while probing tissue, using electrical penetration graph technique (EPG). Furthermore, stylectomy was histology studied with aim correlate observed EPG recordings tip positions specific tissues leaf petioles. Behavioral observations during a 30-min period showed that probed more frequently (38.6 ± 1.5 probes) than males (25.3 1.1 24.3 probes, respectively). Similarly, spent higher proportion time (656.0 67.6 s) apical sections (403.0 48.8 s 356.0 43.7 s, The 5 h indicated cell-rupturing main activity for all insect stages, events adults. histological studies revealed trend within vascular semi-ring. tips were found both bundles parenchyma interfascicular region. findings study confirm important behavior potential Moreover, increased cell rupturing behaviour suggests laceration enzymatic maceration occurring event might greatly contribute inflicted A comprehensive understanding interactions plant, levels, shed light new approaches minimize its maintaining benefits as biocontrol agent.

Impact of Feeding on Contaminated Prey on the Life Parameters of Nesidiocoris Tenuis (Hemiptera: Miridae) Adults

Insecticide selectivity to natural enemies is an important concern in integrated pest management programs. Although there is a wide range of information concerning pesticide lethal and sublethal effects on contaminated surfaces, little is known when the route of exposure occurs at a trophic level. This study evaluates this route of pesticide intake on the omnivorous predator Nesidiocoris tenuis...

Stage-Related Defense Response Induction in Tomato Plants by Nesidiocoris tenuis

The beneficial effects of direct predation by zoophytophagous biological control agents (BCAs), such as the mirid bug Nesidiocoris tenuis, are well-known. However, the benefits of zoophytophagous BCAs' relation with host plants, via induction of plant defensive responses, have not been investigated until recently. To date, only the females of certain zoophytophagous BCAs have been demonstrated ...

Population genetic structure and post-LGM expansion of the plant bug Nesidiocoris tenuis (Hemiptera: Miridae) in China

The plant bug, Nesidiocoris tenuis (Hemiptera: Miridae), is one of the most thermophilous dicyphines in agroecosystems and is widely distributed in China. Little is known regarding the genetic structure of N. tenuis and the effect of historical climatic fluctuations on N. tenuis populations. We analyzed partial sequences of three mitochondrial protein-coding genes (COI, ND2 and CytB) and nuclea...

Compatibility of insecticides and fungicides with the zoophytophagous mirid predator Nesidiocoris tenuis

Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae) is an effective predator of multiple pests of vegetable crops, such as thrips, mites, aphids, whiteflies, leafminers. It is mass-reared and released for augmentative biocontrol programs mainly aimed at controlling whiteflies and Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in greenhouses and open field. We evaluated the lethal and subletha...

Classifying Components by Behavioral Abstraction

We present an approach for classifying and retrieving reusable software based on exemplary descriptions of its functionality. The functionality of reusable components is described by a set of tuples with each tuple representing a characteristic input-output (or stimulus-response) transformation of the component at hand. With careful choice of these characteristic tuples, information equivalent ...
